Understand Your IT Before Planning the Work

Practical IT surveys for businesses and schools: wireless, cabling, servers, printing and new-office requirements, with agreed findings and next steps.

How this service helps

If unreliable Wi-Fi, undocumented equipment or a forthcoming move makes it difficult to decide what to change, we can assess the relevant systems. We agree the questions to answer and the depth of investigation before arranging a visit. Our survey can cover an existing site or requirements for new premises, helping you separate urgent faults from planned improvements and avoid buying equipment before its requirements are clear.

What's Included

  • Wi-Fi coverage, access-point placement and usage review
  • Network equipment, cabling routes and cabinet review
  • Server, storage and system dependency assessment
  • Printer, scanning and shared-printing requirements
  • New-office device, connectivity, phone and AV requirements
  • Agreed inventory, findings, priorities and recommendations

How It Works

We discuss the problem, available records and site access, then agree the survey scope, cost and outputs. We inspect and carry out the agreed checks, explain limitations and document findings. We review priorities with you and identify the information needed for an implementation quote; installation is separately agreed.

  1. 01

    Understand

Review your environment, constraints and business priorities.

  2. 02

    Agree the scope

Define responsibilities, deliverables and the change window.

  3. 03

    Implement

Make controlled changes with testing and a rollback plan.

  4. 04

    Hand over

Validate the result and document ongoing ownership.

Plan the right scope

Choose a survey when you need evidence about an existing site or requirements for a change. Quote factors include site size, system count, access, testing depth and report detail. Wider technology strategy belongs in consultancy; a cyber-control review has a separate security scope.

Useful information for our first conversation

  • Site plans, equipment lists and the problems or decisions you want the survey to address.
  • Number of sites, users and rooms; access restrictions and acceptable testing windows.
  • Existing diagrams or reports, and whether you need an inventory, findings report or implementation options.

Questions before you decide

Is a survey the same as a quotation?

A survey investigates an agreed technical question and produces the agreed findings. A quotation prices a defined scope of work. Some jobs can be quoted from supplied information; others need a scoped technical visit first. We agree any survey cost before starting.

Will we receive heatmaps or certified test results?

Outputs depend on the agreed methods and available access. Findings, priorities and recommendations can be included, but calibrated certification, measured heatmaps and detailed diagrams are not automatic survey deliverables. Specify any required evidence before commissioning.

Can another supplier use the findings?

We can agree a report or handover intended for your internal team or another supplier. Confirm the required detail and permitted access at scoping. Recommendations explain assumptions and further checks needed before implementation.

What affects the quote?

  • Number and size of sites, rooms and systems to inspect.
  • Access restrictions, testing depth and required visit windows.
  • Inventory, report, diagram and recommendations detail agreed in the survey scope.

Testing and handover

  • Agreed findings, priorities and recommendations delivered with access and method limitations recorded.
  • Review of next steps and information needed for any implementation quote.

A useful assessment record

This sample structure shows how findings can lead to a practical decision. The actual report, measurements and level of detail are agreed before a survey; this is not a report of client work.

Current environment
Record the equipment, users, dependencies and areas included in the assessment.
Observations and evidence
Document the reported issue and checks made, with measurements or photographs where agreed.
Options and priorities
Explain recommended changes, dependencies and items requiring a separate quotation.
Ownership and next steps
Identify decisions, responsible contacts and how completed work will be tested.
